Default can a canna flower stay in a small container?



i bought a canna flower from the nursery and i was wondering if i can leave it in its container i bought it is rather then planting it in the ground,, cause i know i have to bring it in for the winter....would the container be too small? how much sunlight does the flower need???
i see about 3 stems coming up so is that enough room in the container .....i think its a 2L container im not sure.......its not that big....
please help!!!!!!!
