What country do cockroaches originate from?

I wondered what country cockroaches actually came from and how they get onto other countries.

There are a large number of different types of cockroaches.

In Australia, for example, there are cockroaches that live in the soil and perform the same job as worms, and so good to have.

The cockroaches you are referring to are the North American brown and the German black cockroaches.

These are the 2 common pests in your home. The North American obviously originates from the Americas and would have been unknown in europe prior to European settlement. When we think of cockroaches, this is what they think of.

The German one would be more problematic. I am not sure of the exact origin, but it smaller one of the two. Why it is called German, I am not sure "French fries are from Belgium"...so maybe it is like that, just a naming convention that starting somewhere.
