I cut the tops off mine after they have been hit with frost..then I dig them up..brush off as much dirt as possible, and I store them in a bag in a cool, dark place over the winter..then once the ground warms up in the spring..here it is the end of may or into june..I plant them.

For next fall- when the tops frost down, cut them off about 6" above the ground. Leave them in the ground for about a week after- they will try to start growing again & pop eyes. Dig them up & divide making sure you have an eye on each tuber. Let cure for a day or so- but not directly on cement- it will dry them out too much. Store in boxes or bins in vermiculite- cover the tubers really well. Look at our website in the "From Seed to Dahlia" album to see a how-to slide show on what to do with your dahlias in the fall. Sorry I didn't get to answer before it was too late- but there's always this year!

You can also look on the Colorado Dahlia Society site for alternate methods of tuber storage- it's a really good informative site on all aspects of dahlia growing.
