It's really too late to be planting dahlias unless you live in the south where it doesn't freeze in winter- then you can treat them as a perennial & let them grow year-round. If you don't live where it's warm you could plant them in a pot & take them inside for the winter. In spring, just cut them back to about 6inches tall & you'll get new growth & blooms next year.
