No, daylilies won't grow from cuttings. They grow from roots of the plant which can be divided and planted. Once you do have one in the ground, they do reproduce fairly well and can fill a flower bed over about 3-4 years.
Some daylilies also produce abundant seeds and will produce growth from those seeds as well. The seeds are produced from large green pods that come from the flowers after they bloom. The seeds are large and black and about 1/2 the size of a green pea that you might eat from a can.
Seed pods will not develop from a cut flower.
They differ from Easter Lillies which are bulbs and not grown from divided plants as daylilies are.
(Daylilies are NOT edible, by the way.)
Incidentally, stores such as Lowes and Home Depot have Daylilies for sale around Springtime in most areas of the country. They bloom in summer. I have several growing in my backyard which I planted in Spring this year. They were amazing! |
