I very seldom use "garden pruners," that's the wife's problem....

But, I was putting away a pair of expensive Swiss pruners that she
left on the picnic table this afternoon and I automatically "locked"
them in the closed position with the spring compressed.

But, I randomly wondered if that would significantly shorten the life
of the spring and if it would be better to store them with the the
"jaws open," or uncompressed.

Probably makes so little difference it's not worth considering, but
just one of those random thoughts that bug you at times.

Opinions?

I have a light fixture in my garage, and when I put a normal
incandescent light bulb in it, I cannot reliable turn the light on.
That is, when I flick the switch to "on", I can see the bulb turn on
for a fraction of a second and then turn off, and stay off. If I
repeat this process a few times, the light will eventually stay on for
a few seconds, but then turn off again.

The fixture does not have a light sensor in it, and it was working
reliably for years until recently. Can anyone give me a clue as to
what's going on?
You are corect in the third port goes to a vacuum port, so to speak.
The pulses from the engine crank case are what makes the pump
diaphragm "flutter" thus pumping the fuel. Check that your hoses are
in good condition first as that woud be the most likley suspect at
this point, and generally there is no need to prime the pump. If all
the fuel drained back into the tank when you changed the pump it might
take a bit to get it back up to the pump.......Midnite
The metal skin on today's cars have a "memory", and paint is more
flexible, at least to some extent.

Several years ago, a baseball bounced off the top of one of my front
fenders, and left a dent two inches across, and about a half inch deep.

At a local car dealership's body shop, they wanted 300 dollars to fix it
- Lord only knows what it would cost today.

I removed enough of the inner fender screws to be able to be able to get
a sawed off broom handle up inside, then pushed on the dent from the
underside, and it popped right back into place - looked like the dent
was never there.

I'm not advocating anyone try this - just saying it worked for me.

And I do remember mumbling something to myself about the crooks at the
body shop ...
I pulled it off, was a little confused with the pedal and sat on the trailer for 30 seconds pushing the brake and gas. (I know) The next day I tried to cut the grass. It was going fine then I started to smell rubber and a few minutes later it wouldn't engage the transmission. I looked under the mower and appears I have two belts. One appeared to be off. I have put it back on twice but it still pops off. Any suggestions? Thanks...
