** The Technics amp will probably blow up.

You cannot use 70V line *step up* trannies with domestic hi-fi amps.

Line voltage power amplifiers are specially designed to drive the included
step up transformer - which presents a lethal load to most SS amplifiers.

BTW

"Technics mono 100W amp" leads to no particular model on Google.

So what the fuck have you really got ??

That looks like a typical 9 ohm degaussing resistor. Just about any
3-pin PTC degaussing resistor should do.

For example, Murata makes popular replacements, eg PTH451C9R0Q21:

Supposedly the 9.9 hp engine is 34 years old and the original coil is
no longer made.

When I saw it the ignition system was wired up "energy transfer" like
in Fig. 48:

http://data.sohc4.net/Tech/HondaMES/HondaMES5.PDF

Some laminated cube on the center lug on the coil _may_ be an
insulator to the engine mounting. If so then there are two
theories:

1. The proper ignition wiring is actually low tension magneto (Fig.
47) and the cap/point wire needs to be moved to the center lug.

2. The coil is for another application and the center lug needs to
bypass the insulator be wired to ground.

The engine was the abode for a family of mice who ate through the cap/
point wire and made a mess so there are other theories on why there is
no voltage in the secondary:

3. the kill button is bad (always closed).

4. other wires may be compromised

5. the points are set at 0.017 which may be a little high (always
open)

The coil seems to have ball park range resistances, 0.75, 3 and 30K
ohms. The condensor seems to have some effect on an analog voltmeter
when tapped with a DC voltage. When cranked the low voltage magneto
coil puts out a few volts on the multimeter.

In all systems the crank shaft must be aligned/timed with the cam so
that will probably be the first thing to check. At TDC the little
round impression timing mark can be set for either the side with a
similar mark or 180 degrees as it's a wasted spark system. I'm still
not sure how to get it exactly right. The flywheel has 4 magnets and
it's hard to guess the exact phase angle.

Should the points first open up about 10 degrees before TDC (one belt
tooth spacing). There is a centrifugal advance.
I suppose that we can debate the relevance of years of experience, as I toohave been repairing this equipment for over 30 years, but...

DVD units use a higher power laser light and have a finer granularity of "tracks" on the disc. While I have not measured the RF levels (I never foundthat to be particularly useful), I have had 100s of cases where a good cleaning of the lens DID restore the unit to proper operation. I suspect thatthe light was more scattered by the "dirt" rather than being totally blocked thus making the reading of the disc difficult.

While this is in no way an absolute solution, it is a simple task that can sometimes restore proper operation. I have needed to perform grating adustments from time to time as well, but that is rare. As with all repair experience, your mileage may vary and will totaly depend upon the number and brands of units repaired.

People have often asked me about the reliability of certain brands and models. I never feel comfortable about making any comments as the only ones I usually see are the broken ones.
If you measure the Vcc of the IC, then that should narrow down the
suitable candidates. Vcc is determined by an internal zener, not by
the external components. It doesn't sound like this IC is the problem,
though.
You'll also find quite a bit of good info under:
<http://www.howardforums.com>
There's no such thing as an on topic newsgroup unless its moderated.
Your off topic posting to a repair newsgroup is a good example.

There's no such thing as a 3G frequency. 3G can be deployed on almost
any cellular band.

USA uses 850/1900. Europe uses 900/1800. Quad phones have all 4
bands. Dual mode phones will do both GSM and CDMA. 4G phones add 1.7
or 2.1GHz bands for data.

That depends on where you live and where you are visiting. If you're
in the USA, you only need 850/1900. If you travel to strange and out
of the way places, I suggest quad band and dual mode.
1) I see scanners all the time at garage sales. Any one with a scanning
surface the same width should have a usable lamp inside. And maybe a
replacement power supply, if you need one ...

2) Look on eBay for one the same size, advertised as a replacement for a
laptop display.

The color balance may be wrong (because it likely doesn't use the same
phosphor mix), but it should be possible to compensate for that -- maybe
the scanner will do it automatically.

Well, that shouldn't happen. The technology is the same as for laptop
display backlights, and they generally last a long time.

But you could always turn it off when you're not using it ...
I bet the fault lies with the clock power supply. Ovens are extremely
simple devices. The only complicated thing is the clock and element
control system. Well, except for the very latest ovens. They are
microprocessor controlled things. You can still bet that electros will
be the problem when they go belly-up.

OK, after spending Sat & Sun under the hood, I'm officially a shade tree semi-expert of some of this stuff.

I cleaned and lubricated and shoved as many parts around as I could. Got the stepper motor back running again. Fixed some vacuum leaks, loose electrical connectors. Checked every sensor in the book and all were OK.

Engine starts up fine and runs a lot better, but still has a miss. Will start again next weekend.
