It is a vacant home and there won't be anyone around, I will be reselling it and just want to make it safe and not have to have the lead paint asterik to scare people away. Can I prime and paint over it and make the disclosure go away?

New drywall is soaking up too much paint after contractor applied 2 coats of (ivory colour) primer prior to us painting. Whatever primer they used was sprayed on and doesn't smell like kilz primer. It's really eating up our Sherwin-Williams paint and frustrating us. We've resorted to priming again ourselves by hand. :( Any clues why it's soaking up so much? About 1 can for only one coat of dovetail, a gray colour low VOC for a room about 12x12-ish. Maybe they didn't use primer? (Should it take more than 2 coats...) All suggestions/reasons are welcome! THANKS!
-- New construction rebuild after a housefire in May. Finally painting today. We bought 2 5-gallon buckets of kilz primer and started doing it ourself after having to buy more paint to 2nd coat/3rd coat some of the rooms. Very annoying, I complained to our contractor about the sub-contractor. Not sure if we can get anywhere with them. Just have to unfortunately do it ourselves and give everyone else a bad rating. Really disappointing, especially the additional expense.
