carpet cleaning.. professional?

I am moving into a home who's previous tenants had a puppy that never left the house.. it smells terribly.. id like to pay to have carpets professionally cleaned.(it is being taken off my rent) I am just tryin to move in asap.. but id like it to smell good!! The carpets were brand new good quality when the other tenant moved in. its been only 6 months.. is it worth steaming them? will that remove the smell? anyone have experience with this?

Unfortunately, it sounds like the urine has gotten into the under-layment. The landlord is responsible to have the carpets cleaned BEFORE you move in, but then in turn, you are responsible to clean the carpets when you move out. But yes, they need to be professionally cleaned and the cleaners need to be made aware of the puppy messes. They have special chemicals they can use.
