Default phalaenopsis

Hi i am new to this group and very new to orchids.

I would be very greatfull for some help please.

Firstly I do understand that growing orchids is I beleive very specialized.

I bought 4 orchids from my local garden centre all in full bloom, I gave 2
to my girl friend and kept the other 2 myself.

My 2 bloomed for about 3 weeks then the flowers died off and I am now left
with just 2 bare stems!

The other 2 are still in full bloom so where am I going wrong?

I am still getting every day messages from a company in america wanting to
sell me a book on orchids.

Any help will be most welcome

Thanks

Steve Price

ignore the spam.

you don't know how long the plants were in bloom before you bought
them; yours just may have been finished.

have you seen

Hmmmm... yours died and hers are still going....did you perform the
requisite sacrifice to the orchid gods? *G* Just kidding, there are no
orchid go..... well maybe I'll stop before I finish typing that thought....

Jankey's links should help you, if they don't you may consider physical
factors like drafts at your house vs your girlfriend's house. Or
different temps at your place vs the GF's. Also many times the plant's
position at the store is the culprit, yours got more blasts of air from
the opening/closing store doorway, hers didn't. Stuff like that. Or
yours could be a different type of phalaenopsis from your GF's.

Do not give up. Yours may bloom again in 6 months time. The old spike
may branch and give you more orchids, the buds at the tip may elongate
the old spike with more flowers, or a new spike may start from the base.
Never can tell.

I cannot grow these puppies!!! I can tell you what "not" to do!
Don't leave them sitting in water.
Don't let water sit in the crown of the leaves.
Don't let them get direct sunlight.
Don't let them get cold. They like human temps.
Cheers Wendy
