I want to learn how to grow a winter vegetable garden in zone 7 , how do

I do it ? read :? I live in Grants Pass Or, zone 7 and I know winter veggie gardens grow well here
I have grown flowers for 15 years intensively, but now I want to grow a winter garden of lettuce etc. I went to our best local nursery and the gal there who is very experienced told me she has grown winter veggies VERY well here, but she lives in the country and has done it for so long , she doesn't really know how to tell a beginner what to do. It is hard for me to believe it grows here because we get frost, but, I don't understand freezing weather and winter gardens at all, I do have an area that is where it gets the most warm and I can grow summer corn there very very well. Would this be the best place to plant my winter veggies or would it be too hot Thanks for any info, Wendy
