Dianthus freynii

D. Freynii. A Pink that reminds one of D. glacialis (the Glacier Pink), and so closely allied is it that some authorities regard it as only a variety.

It is one of the smallest and most compact of the wild species, and has pale grey leaves and purple flowers three-quarters of an inch across on very short stems. These is also a variety with paler coloured flowers. It is a native of Hungary and Bosnia, and was introduced in 1892.
