Squash Vegetable Culture

For best results the soil must be worked to a good depth and left in fine tilth. It is generally easy to interest the children in the Squash patch, and they are soon willing to do their share to forward growth and development from the plant ing of the seed to making of pie. Plant seed in extra fertile soil in the spring as soon as danger of frost is past. The vining varieties should be planted in hills eight to ten feet apart each way, and the bush varieties four to five feet. Place seeds in a hill and cover with an inch of soil. When the plants are well started, thin out and cultivate. One ounce of seed required for twenty-five hills. Running varieties, four pounds per acre. Bush varieties, six pounds per acre.
