Some pruning can be done to certain shrubs (see Pruning) that have flowered, but this should mostly be done merely to thin the growths and allow room for the development of new ones, as in the case of the Flowering currant, climbing Roses, Spiraea thunbergii and Van houttei, Calycanthus florida. Give herbaceous borders and flower beds constant cultivation. Staking must be done wherever plants require it. Trim lawns and hedges. Divide Japanese Iris. Remove seed pods from Rhododendrons. Keep everything well-watered. Cultivate thoroughly. Plant Sweet Corn and Beans for use in late September. Plant out late Tomatoes, Celery, Cabbage and Brussels Sprouts. Sow Endive for use in Fall.
